Pet Stains:

Removing pet stains from carpets involves prompt action and the right cleaning approach. Here are steps you can take to effectively remove pet stains.

  1. Act Quickly:

    • The sooner you address a pet stain, the better. Blot up as much of the liquid as possible with paper towels or a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain, as it can push the liquid deeper into the carpet fibers.

  2. Purchase a Cleaning Solution:

    • Pet stains are unique and require a specific cleaning detergent.

    • You will want to buy a LOW pH detergent, which is typically peroxide based. You're typically safe, if you see a pet image on your cleaning solution bottle. These are typically low pH solutions.

    • Do NOT use a high pH detergent

    • Pet urine is considered alkaline (high pH), therefore, you need to neutralize the pet stain by using a low pH detergent

  3. Apply the Cleaning Solution:

    • Apply the cleaning solution onto the stained area, ensuring it saturates the carpet fibers without soaking the carpet pad underneath.

  4. Blot the Stain:

    • Gently blot the stain with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Press down firmly to absorb the moisture. Repeat this process until the stain is no longer transferring to the cloth.

  5. Rinse with Water:

    • IMPORTANT: do not use hot water or steam. Urine has proteins in it, which will be "baked" into the carpet if hot water is used.

    • Rinse the area with clean water to remove any residual cleaning solution. Blot with a dry cloth or paper towel to absorb excess moisture.

  6. Use a Carpet Cleaner:

    • IMPORTANT: do not use hot water or steam. Urine has proteins in it, which will be "baked" into the carpet if hot water is used.

    • If the stain persists, consider renting a carpet cleaner or extractor. These can be rented at many local supermarkets or home improvement stores.

    • The cleaning solution you purchased (see above) should work in this rented cleaning machine.

  7. Professional Cleaning:

    • For stubborn or set-in stains, it may be necessary to call Clean Spritz for a professional carpet cleaning. We have specialized equipment, detergents, spot cleaners and expertise to remove the majority of pet issues.

Tips:

  • Always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the carpet to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration or damage.

  • Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners, as the scent may attract pets back to the same spot.

  • Use a pet-friendly enzyme cleaner to break down proteins in the urine and eliminate odors.

  • IMPORTANT: do not use hot water or steam. Urine has proteins in it, which will be "baked" into the carpet if hot water is used.

Remember that consistent and immediate cleaning is essential to prevent pet stains from setting into the carpet fibers. Regular vacuuming and professional carpet cleaning can also help maintain a clean and odor-free carpet.
