Encapsulation Cleaning

Different Carpet Cleaning Methods

Introduction:

There are several methods of carpet cleaning, each with its own advantages and suitability for different situations. Here are some common methods:

  1. Encapsulation Cleaning:

    • A polymer based encapsulation cleaning solution is injected/sprayed into the carpet. This process encapsulates the dirt, grime, urine, etc... within the detergent.

    • A large encapsulation machine agitates the carpet, using a variety of bonnets and pads.

    • Once the carpet has been agitated, the machine extracts the remaining detergent on the carpet (which contains the dirt, grime, urine).

    • The remaining detergent crystalizes around the dirt particles, which are then vacuumed away later, leaving the carpet even more clean.

    • This method is known for quick drying times, and is typically more efficient in removing stains because of the agitation involved.

    • Encapsulation is very popular in commercial carpets, and is becoming more and more popular in residential environments.

    • Encapsulation cleaning can be done hot (steam) or cold, depending on the stains involved.

  2. Hot Water Extraction (Steam Cleaning):

    • This method involves injecting hot water and cleaning solution into the carpet under high pressure, typically around 500psi.

    • The mixture is then extracted along with dirt and stains using a powerful vacuum.

    • The downside to this method, is long dry times and possibility of over-saturating the carpet and pad beneath.

  3. Dry Powder Cleaning:

    • A dry cleaning powder is spread over the carpet and worked into the fibers using a machine.

    • The powder absorbs dirt, and then both powder and dirt are vacuumed out.

  4. Bonnet Cleaning:

    • A cleaning solution is sprayed onto the carpet, and a rotary floor machine with an absorbent pad (bonnet) is used to agitate and absorb dirt.

    • This method is often used for routine maintenance in commercial settings.

  5. Shampooing:

    • A specialized carpet shampoo is applied to the carpet using a rotary brush.

    • The shampoo creates foam that traps dirt, and then it is vacuumed away.

    • This method is less common today due to the residue it can leave behind.

  6. Carbonated Cleaning:

    • Similar to soda, a carbonated cleaning solution is used to lift dirt to the surface.

    • The dirt is then extracted using a bonnet or vacuum.

    • This method is often used for light cleaning.

  7. Vapor Steam Cleaning:

    • This method uses steam to clean and sanitize carpets.

    • It is effective in removing allergens and killing bacteria.

    • However, it may not be suitable for all types of carpets.

The choice of method depends on factors such as the type of carpet, the level of soiling, and the desired drying time. At Clean Spritz, we'd be happy to discuss all of these methods and help you with your carpet cleaning needs!
